Philippians 4:19-20 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” ESV

Introduction:

The sovereign Lord is the great Provider.

When Israel needed a leader, He raised up Moses.

When they needed water in the desert, He supplied it from a rock. When they needed food for their wilderness wandering, He gave it in the form of manna.

We needed a Savior from his sins, so God sent His only Son to die on Calvary’s cross.

Flying in the blind…story

One of many promises in the Bible that has strengthened and sustained God’s children for centuries is Philippians 4:19: “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” ESV

I.          The Provider  “My God”

Genesis 22:8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.

Genesis 22:14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”” ESV

John 21:4-6, 9 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish…When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.” ESV

One who is rightly related to God!

II.         The Promise “My God shall supply”

Those who are rightly related to God will have their needs met.

“The God Who Sees” principle

Genesis 16:11-13 And the angel of the Lord said to her, “Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction. He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.”So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”” ESV

The “He knows what you need before you ask” principle…

Matthew 6:6-8 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” ESV

He knows ahead of time.  He knows exactly what I need.

No doubting,

            No hesitation

                        No apprehension

Matthew 7:7 ““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” ESV

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” ESV

The “Unusual and Impossible” principle…

Matthew 17:25-28 He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?”And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”” ESV

2 Kings 7:3-9

III.        The Provision

The “According to” Principle – According to vs out of…

It all belongs to Him…

Isaiah 40:25-26 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One.Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing.” ESV

Why do we limit God?

Psalm 50:10-12 “For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. “I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. ““If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine.” ESV

Why do we limit God?

Luke 9:13-17 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”And they did so, and had them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.” ESV

Is there anything too big for God?

The “You can’t out give God” principle…

Luke 6:38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”” ESV

Luke 18:28-30 And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.”And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”” ESV

The “this isn’t just about money” principle…

2 Corinthians 7:5-6 For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn—fighting without and fear within. But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,” ESV

Abraham’s servant looking for a bride for Isaac

The sovereign Lord is the great Provider.

When Israel needed a leader, He raised up Moses.

When they needed water in the desert, He supplied it from a rock. When they needed food for their wilderness wandering, He gave it in the form of manna.

We needed a Savior from his sins, so God sent His only Son to die on Calvary’s cross.

The “He is all I need” principle…

Hebrews 13:5-6 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”” ESV

Mark Harris’ song…

Verse 1
Anyone who comes to You
Anyone at all with arms wide open
Anyone who reaches out any time at all
With a heart that’s broken
You will be their shelter
Your will have an answer for anyone
Whoever cries out in need
There You’ll be (just for me)

Chorus 1
I stand on Your promise
Your love is forever
And I believe with all my heart
You are my one and only Savior
You are the light shining out of the dark
And to the ends of the earth
And for the rest of my life
I will carry the light

Verse 2
Any time I turn to You any time at all
I find You waiting
Waiting for the chance to help me hold me heal me
Show me just how amazing
Life can be when you know
What is to be free (to be free)

Misc 1
(BRIDGE)
Over the mountains into the valleys
Crossing the oceans
To all the people of every nation
I’ll carry the light
